  1. preheat oven to 425F
  2. in a 4-quart braiser or dutch oven, melt butter over medium heat. add shallots, garlic, and rosemary. sauté for 2 minutes.
  3. add pasta, pumpkin pesto, tomato paste, spinach, chicken broth, salt, and pepper. bring to a boil. reduce heat to low and cover. cook for 12–13 minutes, stirring halfway through, until al dente.
  4. add fontina, parmesan, and cream. stir until cheese is melted, about 2 minutes. season with salt and pepper to taste. if your pot is not oven-safe, transfer pasta to a baking dish.
  5. top with torn mozzarella. transfer to oven and bake for 8–10 minutes. turn broiler on and broil for 1 minute, until cheese is bubbly.
  6. remove from oven and let sit for 5 minutes. garnish with fresh basil and serve.
